Speed Zone Rules and Mowing Rules

70:01:02:17- Charles Mix County speed zone rule. Due to the realignment of State Trunk Highway 50 west of Wagner, South Dakota, the South Dakota Department of Transportation is eliminating a limited speed zone on this highway. The department is also re-defining the starting point of the speed zones on State Trunk Highway 46 in and around Wagner. The purpose of these speed zone changes is to correct location references for speed zones on State Trunk Highway 46 in Wagner and eliminate a speed zone on State Trunk Highway 50 that is no longer necessary due to the re-construction of State Trunk Highway 50. 70:01:02:21- Custer County speed zone rule. On U.S. Highway 16 adjacent to the Jewel Cave National Monument, the department proposes to shorten the current 35 miles per hour speed zone and introduce a 45 miles per hour zone on each end of the 35 miles per hour zone. The purpose of this speed zone change is to eliminate a drastic speed zone change from 65 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour by creating a transition speed zone of 45 miles per hour. 70:01:02:28- Faulk County speed zone rule. A proposed rule change would correct the starting point reference for the 50 miles per hour speed zone on U.S. Highway 212 in Faulkton, South Dakota. The purpose of this speed zone change is to eliminate the reference to a railroad crossing that no longer exists and replace it with a street reference. 70:01:02:38- Hyde County speed zone rule. A proposed rule change would extend the 45 miles per hour speed limit on U.S. Highway 14 in Highmore, South Dakota. The purpose of this speed zone change is to enhance safety by better accommodating truck and heavy farm machinery turning movements to and from U.S. Highway 14. 70:01:02:44- Lincoln County speed zone rule. A proposed rule change would extend the 45 miles per hour speed zone on South Dakota Highway 11 west of Canton, South Dakota. The purpose of this speed zone change is to enhance safety. Chapter 70:04:06 – Mowing of Highway Rights-of-Way. To improve management of the state trunk highway system, the department is amending the rules governing the mowing of state trunk highway rights-of-way. The amendments will clarify the meaning of the rules, facilitate administration of the rules, expand the counties affected by mowing restrictions, further define limitations on mowing operations, increase liability insurance requirements, and re-define liability for permittees and contractors performing mowing operations.
